Calligraphy Progression Workshop

Our Calligraphy Progression workshops are for those that have completed our beginner workshop and want to expand their calligraphic tools.

This is an opportunity for you to practice, gain advice, expand your calligraphy knowledge and take your calligraphy to the next level. The aim of this workshop is to improve your calligraphy skills and confidence by giving you detail oriented guidance on making your calligraphy look dramatically better and more professional. Athena will look at your current calligraphy and provide tips and pointers on improving your current skills. By the end of this workshop you'll have created your own piece of calligraphy artwork.

Taught by calligraphy enthusiast and Meticulous Ink owner, Athena, you'll receive boatloads of one-on-one advice and guidance. You'll get to practice an elaborate flourish alphabet, we'll cover smoothly joining your letters, and how to create consistency with your calligraphy. At the end of the workshop you will have created your own piece of text based artwork to take home, and you'll have the knowledge to confidently tackle more exciting calligraphy projects.

Please note you must have completed the Meticulous Ink Beginner Workshop to book onto this workshop.

Each pupil will receive upon arrival:

• 1 x Nib holder
• 1 x Flexible copperplate nib
• 2 x Meticulous Ink calligraphy practice sheets
• 2 x Lined artwork under-sheets
• 2 x Plain practice sheets
• 1 x Flourish Calligraphy guide sheet
• 1 x Pot of Iron Gall Meticulous Ink

You'll get too keep all of this equipment so you can continue your practice at home.

The workshops are taught by Athena and held in our beautiful letterpress print studio and shop - 134 Walcot Street, Bath BA1 5BG, where you can take a closer look at the machines used to print all of our paper goods. After the workshop you'll have the opportunity to peruse our shop and stock up on calligraphy items for your new hobby.

When attending please bring along with you a short quote (5-10 words), a collection of meaningful words, or family names - you'll use this to make your beautiful artwork.

Can I come if I haven't completed the Beginner Calligraphy Workshop?

No - this workshop is created specifically for those that already understand the basics as taught by Athena. This ensures that everyone in the class has the same knowledge and understands the language used.

Cancellation Terms

Please ensure you can attend the workshop before booking, as tickets are non-refundable. If we are notified 14 days prior to the workshop and you can no longer make it, we would be happy to transfer you to a future date. If for any reason you are unable to attend within 14 days of your workshop, we are unable to swap your date, though you are more than welcome to find a friend that can take your place.

In the rare circumstance we are unable to run a workshop, your ticket will be valid to book onto another available date.

Is there an age limit for the workshop?

Anyone can attend our workshops, though unfortunately we do not allow children under 12. Those under 16 we do request are accompanied by an adult, so be sure to book two tickets. Please do get in touch if you'd like to discuss.

What should I bring?

You don't need anything - we provide everything you need at our workshops, including ink, nibs, paper and guide sheets - all of which you can take away with you at the end of the workshop. Though we don't anticipate any spillages, we would recommend you wear black, or dark colours.



What are my transport/parking options getting to you?

There is parking in Bath in several locations - the nearest to us would be the Podium car park or the Cattlemarket car park. Train services to Bath Spa are very regular and the walk to our shop at 134 Walcot Street takes around 20 minutes.

How do the gift vouchers work?

When ordering the gift voucher option we will create a code that can be used to book online or in store to book onto your preferred date. We’ll post you a lovely physical gold foil printed voucher with the recipient name and their code in calligraphy.

Accessibilitiy

Please note that our workshops take place at a table that is approximately 1m in height with seating on adjustable height stools, although you are of course welcome to stand if you prefer. If you require alternative seating arrangements, please notify us ahead of time.
