The Visual Strength of Letters with Claire Coullon TALK - Thursday 27th June 2019 6.00pm to 7.00pm

Workshop

Regular price £6.00

Join Claire Coullon, lettering artist, and presswoman at Meticulous Ink, for a talk on the use of typography.

Letters are part of our daily lives; we see and read printed words every day, often not consciously paying attention to the actual forms of the type. However, there is a whole visual world beyond the literal meaning of the words themselves. Claire will walk you through a short history of how everyone from writers and artists to political movements and modern businesses have used the visual nature of letterforms to not only reflect their desired message, but to enhance their words' power to communicate. You'll look at examples from throughout the 20th and 21st centuries, including brief case studies of contemporary national and international brands that have notably used typography in their logos and messages. There will be a Q&A with Claire after the talk.

When: Thursday 27th June, 6.00pm to 7.00pm

Where: Walcot Chapel, just round the corner from our shop on Walcot Street.

Details:

Is there an age limit for the talk?
Anyone can attend our talks, though we think you'll get the most out of it if you have a keen interest in visual communication, design and the arts. Those under 16 we do request are accompanied by an adult. Please do get in touch if you'd like to discuss.

What should I bring?
You don't need anything - we'll provide some simple refreshments and a seat. We encourage questions so you are welcome to bring any with you.

What are my transport/parking options getting to you?
There is parking in Bath in several locations - the nearest to us would be the Podium car park or the Cattlemarket car park. Train services to Bath Spa are very regular and the walk to Walcot Chapel takes around 25 minutes.
